TAILORED SIMPLICITY
In the mid-1970s David Webb began sketching fundamental forms, such as arrows and zigzags, circles and squares. Imagined initially as pendants, these pencil sketches were turned into jewelry set in yellow gold and platinum, their shapes described in brilliant-cut diamonds with white or black enamel.The result was jewelry with chromatic punch - yet as basic for the stylishly dressed modern woman as the perfect white shirt and little black dress. “Tailored simplicity” is how the always fashion-conscious David Webb described his new creations.
The David Webb Motif Collection includes necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings. The design is forceful, and yet the actual size is relatively small, in keeping with the idea that Motif is jewelry you put on and keep on. “The look is simplified,” he said, with jewelry that can be “worn morning, noon and night.”
This new approach isn’t just for a season. The look goes along with the exodus from pants into more feminine clothes, and with the longer, softer skirts, the froufrou and the chiffons.
